After the wastewater has been cleaned up, the effluent can either be released back into the environment or used again for a variety of things like home, commercial, and agricultural uses. Tertiary treatment options include nitrifying bacteria, increased biological phosphorus removal, and sand filtering to remove particulate matter. To make sewage safer to dispose of or reuse, lagoons can also be utilised to remove nutrients and trash.
