The government has come out with another controversial device implementation, this time in the form of a smart meter. The question here is, in an age where every city in the world is in favor of the implementation of a smart meter, what is so controversial about it?
The main point that experts are unhappy about is that the introduction of a smart meter will allow energy firms to introduce “surge pricing.” Through this strategy, industrialists can and will charge households even more, for gas and electric at peak times. This will eventually lead to families paying more for the different activities that use electricity, whether it is using washing machines during popular times, or even charging gadgets and watching television. What this controversial deal will set in motion is dreadful. Special occasions such as Easter or the Christmas Eve when billions of households use high-end power-consuming equipment such as electric oven and inductions to cook for the family will cost them a hefty amount of money as the energy firms will be applying surge charging for these days.
Although controversial, time of use energy deals is all set to become commonplace once the smart meter rollout plan of the government comes to an end. This will be catastrophic for the households as energy firms will be introducing higher tariffs as a relevant option along with the standard tariff already in place. The government technology has to come forward and needs to take steps to curb this menace and endow a peaceful life for the households.
