Based in Torrance, California, Pioneer Electronics (USA) is a prominent manufacturer of cutting-edge mobile aftermarket electronics solutions. Its affiliate, Pioneer Automotive Technologies Inc., is a leading provider of vehicle manufacturers of Tier 1 automotive entertainment systems and components. Pioneer focuses on building the ultimate entertainment experience in cars with high-performance audio, video, and smart devices today. Pioneer has expanded to cover more than 80 years of electronics, develop world-class electricity meters and cycle computers for professional athletes and cycling fans.
rDrive, an integrated service solution that enhances vehicle ownership and driving experience, has recently been introduced by Pioneer Electronics to enhance connectivity, safety, Wi-Fi, and location-based services for most on-road passenger vehicles in the U.S. With the combination of a cloud-based services platform, an intuitive and informative smartphone application, and an installed vehicle wireless LTE network connection, rDrive offers millions of consumers an upgrade to include many of the connectivity features, which were mainly acquired by the purchase of a new motor vehicle.
rDrive is the result of a partnership that marks the entrance of Pioneer into telematics for the consumer vehicle with CalAmp, an established leader in mobile and automotive technology solutions and owner of the LoJack brand. They are the leader in the field of vehicle recovery from stolen products and innovative automotive services. CalAmp is a leading telematics pioneer in globally connected economy transformation. LoJack helps companies to reinvent and improve lives around the world with technological solutions that streamline complex IoT deployments and promote intelligence. Enterprise software applications, scalable cloud services, and smart devices collect and evaluate business-critical data from mobile assets, towns, cargo, enterprises, and individuals.
rDrive provides valuable solutions for a range of consumer needs such as teen/senior driver monitoring, vehicle health diagnostic alerts, and business/personal drive logging with CalAmp’s telematics, mobile connectivity, near-real-time analysis, and motion data expertise. rDrive offers a suite of related services including LoJack Stolen Vehicle Location Assist, TripWire™ Early Alert, CrashBoxx™ crash reporting, arrivals/departures notifications for vehicles, and LoJack Command Center Live Agency Support.
Initially, rDrive will be a mobile rDrive application and a small networked device connected to the car Onboard Diagnostics port (OBD-II), found in the majority of the car making and model marketing companies sold in the U.S. starting in 1996. The device is connected to or connected via a cable extension to the OBD-II port of the vehicle and securely installed within the vehicle’s dash. There will be two devices enabled by rDrive, with and without Wi-Fi in-vehicle hotspot capability. Wi-Fi hotspot feature offers passenger internet connectivity using entertainment and productivity devices such as tablets and game systems. A compatible AT&T prepaid or any monthly wireless service is required for the Wi-Fi hotspot feature in a vehicle.
